Questions
How do I register?
Registration and auditions for our 2023-2024 season will take place on August 30 and 31st from 4-6pm at the Capitol Theatre. The process is different for each class.
Introductory Class: Any student 5+ may register in the intro class without auditioning. We cap this class at 24 so enrolment is open until it is full or January 8th. Simply show up on our registration day and fill out our forms, and your child will be enrolled.

Intermediate Class: Our suggested age for entry into this class would be nine. Students must audition on one of our registration days to gain entry into this group however once they have done so they do not need to do it for successive years. We cap this class at 24 so enrolment is open until it is full or January 8th. Admission is not guaranteed.

The Company: Students must audition every year. Our recommended age for this class depends on experience. If your child has always been in stages and participated in our intermediate class the suggested age is 12+ if your child has never participated in stages our recommended age would be 14+. This is a work heavy group that requires a lot of dedication and maturity. Admission is not guaranteed.
Help! How do I audition?
Easy! You find a short monologue, preferably about a minute in length, that you will memorize. Practice for about 10-20 minutes a day for three-four days and you should be very comfortable. Please remember to bring a copy of the monologue to the audition. When choosing a monologue try to find something relatable to your life. That doesn't mean you can't choose a monologue that is from the point of view of an alien or someone much older than you, it is more about the theme of what they are saying. There are some universal feelings we all understand, the pain of losing a loved one, the frustration of siblings, or the joy of new love.
However, it might be more difficult for someone 5-17 to relate to a divorce, or an older person looking back on their life as they pass away. You are free to pick whatever monologue you would like but if you need help finding one, I highly recommend checking out the Drama Notebook's page Monologues for Kids. You can use monologues from TV or movies BUT do NOT recreate the filmed performance, the monologue should be your interpretation of the words. Break a leg!

Costumes?
Students in our introductory and Intermediate classes provide their own costumes for performances. Costumes can also be rented from the theatre or if you are in a panic, talk to Naomi or Gabby and they will help.
Bursary
We do have limited bursaries available each year. Our aim is to provide opportunities to access this program to those who might not otherwise be able to attend due to financial barriers. If you would like to apply please reach out to us at stagesyouththeatrecompany@gmail.com
My child can't read can they participate?
Absolutely! What we do in situations like this is we give the child a smaller role and we support them in class by giving them one on one support. We ask that you support them at home by spending ten minutes each night going over their lines with them.
